Lethabo Woods: Rising from Welkom to National Fashion Influence

Lethabo Woods, a vibrant force in South Africa’s digital fashion landscape, was born in the town of Welkom in the Free State and later moved to Bloemfontein to pursue his studies.

His journey into the world of fashion and content creation began in Grade 11 when he started modeling, but he quickly realized that his passion extended far beyond being in front of the camera he wanted to shape visual culture. Long before calling himself an influencer, Woods was paying photographers and investing in the aesthetic of his content, determined to present himself as a serious creative. His early efforts began catching attention, and soon enough he was working with big names such as Converse, Samsung during their S22 campaign, The Foschini Group, and many more. His rise was not sudden but rather a well-strategized climb rooted in a unique 1990s-inspired look, blended with elements of futuristic vintage style.

By 2018, at just 19, Woods had already secured international ambassadorships, including one with the Canadian streetwear brand Halifornia Apparel and another with Dresden Row in South Africa. Inspired by cultural icons like Rihanna and the late Ricky Rick, Woods refused to follow trends, instead choosing to define his own aesthetic rooted in confidence, fun, and individuality. His Instagram became a canvas, not just for outfits, but for a broader vision of what it means to be young, creative, and unapologetically authentic in South Africa. His influence grew not just because of his fashion but also because of the boldness of his identity as a young gay Black man who uses his platform to normalize diverse expressions of beauty and selfhood.

As his presence online strengthened, brands began to take him more seriously, not only as a model but as a creative collaborator. His work with Samsung was one of his most successful, reportedly bringing in significant earnings. He has since worked with Jonathan D, Trace, Dickies South Africa, and Absolute Vodka, building a strong portfolio of high-level partnerships. Recently, Woods launched a YouTube channel to complement his Instagram content, signaling his intention to move into long-form creative storytelling. With ambitions to launch his own fashion label and offer styling services, he is not just building a career but laying the foundation for an empire. His journey exemplifies how intentional content creation, combined with authenticity and strategic growth, can turn a small-town creator into an international influencer. Lethabo Woods is not just dressing for the moment he’s dressing for legacy.
